Terry Hershey Park: 11 Miles of Trail Along Buffalo Bayou in Memorial
Terry Hershey Park runs along Memorial Drive in west Memorial, and it is one of the places I point out most when I show homes in this part of town. Harris County Precinct 4 lists the park at 496 acres with 11.05 miles of trail, following about six miles of Buffalo Bayou. The main address is 15200 Memorial Drive, in the 77079 ZIP code.
The park has a hike and bike trail, a picnic area, a pavilion, a playground and an exercise station. It is open every day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., except Thanksgiving Day, December 24 and 25, and January 1, so plan holiday walks around those dates. The park is named for Terry Hershey, who campaigned in the mid-1960s to keep the banks of Buffalo Bayou from being paved. The trail you walk today follows the same banks that campaign protected.
I live in Spring Branch, a short drive east, and when buyers ask me what a Memorial address puts within reach, this trail is usually near the top of the list.
