Three Things Worth Doing Around Houston in the Next Ten Days

The Julia Ideson Building turns 100 this year, and the Houston Public Library is marking it with a free celebration downtown on Saturday, August 22, from noon to four. There's a screening of a documentary about the building's century, guided historic tours, a special exhibit on its history, letterpress printing and typewriters set up from the 1920s, and a vintage storytime pulled from the historic children's book collection. Admission is free.

Out in Sugar Land, the Space Cowboys are home at Constellation Field August 18 through 23 for six games against the Oklahoma City Comets. Wednesday the 19th is dollar hot dog night, Friday the 21st has fireworks after the game, and Sunday the 23rd is kids day, with pregame catch on the field and kids running the bases afterward. Tickets start around nine dollars. I coached competitive gymnastics for sixteen years, and that Sunday format is a good one for families.

Then Houston Theater Week runs August 24 through 30. Buy-one-get-one-free tickets go on sale the 24th with promo code HTW26 — close to 400 performances from 21 local performing arts organizations, covering the 2026-27 season. The full list is at HoustonTheaterWeek.com.

If one of these puts you in a part of town you haven't spent much time in and you find yourself wondering what houses go for there, call or text me at 281-818-8177 and I'll pull the numbers for you.
